The Community Development Department focuses on the management of land use policy, planning, zoning, and building code enforcement as well as economic development and community marketing.  Our mission is to enhance the overall quality of life and further the public interest through inclusive land use policy initiatives and strategies that empower and protect citizens and businesses alike.

The Department is made up of Planning and Zoning, Economic Development, Building, and Code Enforcement.

PLANNING & ZONING

The Planning and Zoning Division applied good town planning principles to the approval process for all new development within the Village's boundaries.  In addition, Community Development oversees all long term planning efforts within the Village along with creating various design guidelines to maintain the Village's quality of place.  Click here for Planning & Zoning Frequently Asked Questions.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

The Economic Development Division actively seeks to attract quality commercial and business development to the Village and promotes the Village's to prospective businesses and residents.  In addition, this division also is critically concerned about retention of the Village's existing businesses and creating a business friendly environment.

BUILDING

The Building Division is responsible for the issuance and review of all permits for construction, remodeling, additions, occupancy, demolition and signs undertaken within the Village limits.  This includes the coordination of required and periodic inspections for permits within the Village's boundaries.

CODE ENFORCEMENT

Code Enforcement is responsible for enforcing ordinances relating to building codes, zoning, signage, and property maintenance.  With an effective code enforcement program, the Village promotes, protects and improves the health, safety and welfare of the citizens of the Village of Antioch.
