Government Profile

The Village of Antioch was first settled in 1832. The Village incorporated in 1857 but dissolved itself in 1865. Antioch permanently incorporated on February 29, 1892 and in the summer of 1992 celebrated its 100th BIRTHDAY with many celebrations and events throughout the year.

The Village is located in Lake County and Antioch Township. The Village provides its residents with services in addition to those provided by the County and Township government. The current population is 14,430.

The Village of Antioch has a Trustee form of government and is a non-home rule community. The Village Board typically meets on the first and third Monday of every month at 7:30 p.m. in the Municipal Building located at 874 Main Street.

Village Board Standing Committees meet at 7:00 p.m. on the second Wednesday of the month.

The Mayor is elected to a term of four years. The next mayoral election will be held in April of 2017.

The Village Board consists of six trustees elected to four year terms.

The Village has a Park Board, and Planning & Zoning Board with members and Chairperson appointed by the Mayor.

The Planning & Zoning Board's primary responsibility is preparing and maintaining the Comprehensive Plan. It conducts public hearings on all Planned Unit Developments, zoning changes and zoning variations. Requests for appeals also are heard by the Planning & Zoning Board.
