Good afternoon and Happy Friday, Antioch!
First of all, for those of you who read my messages every week, you may have noticed we’re trying out a new format. Moving forward, I plan to post my weekly message to the Antioch.il.gov website. The village will re-share it on its Facebook page, and I will continue to share it on my Antioch Mayor Scott Gartner Facebook page, too. We hope this tweak will help get the message out to more people every week. To visit my messages, visit: www.antioch.il.gov/mayorsmessage.
This afternoon, I had the chance to join members of the Village Board and Village staff leadership for our quarterly strategic planning meeting. We had a great meeting! As a team, we covered a lot of ground in one afternoon. We talked about everything from village events, budget issues, and capital projects, to staff and board issues. These planning meetings continue to be an important way to make sure we stay monitoring the progress of big projects happening in our village. Thank you to everyone who participated today! I’m thrilled about the forward momentum we continue to make!
Earlier this week, I had the pleasure of joining the Antioch Chamber of Commerce for a grand-reopening ribbon cutting at the Carstar Raymond Collision Center on Anita Avenue. Congratulations, Carstar Raymond, Raymond Chevrolet Kia, and the Scarpelli family! Did you know that Scarpelli family has been part of the Antioch business community for over 65 years? Congratulations Ray Sr., Mark, Ray Jr., Ray III and everyone at the Raymond Auto Group!
Speaking of the Raymond Auto Group, I’m excited to announce that the Raymond Auto Group has signed up to be the presenting sponsor of the “It’s Thursday Summer Concert Series” at the William Brook Entertainment Center (Antioch Bandshell). This year, we’ve got some big events planned for the bandshell. None of this would be able to happen without the support of sponsors, led by the Scarpelli Family and the Raymond Auto Group. Thank you, Mark Scarpelli and team for your generosity!
I’ve included the list of “It’s Thursday” concerts below – thank you again to the sponsors that make these shows possible. You’ll notice we’re not announcing the kickoff concert just yet. Stay tuned, we`ll be announcing the details next week on US99 radio. Also, you’ll notice that we’ve partnered with 93XRT radio to put on a fun weekend of concerts in July. Finally, we’re hoping to do another show with 95 WIIL Rock later this summer. I hope to have more details on that in the coming weeks/months.
Earlier today, the five newest members of the Antioch Police Department graduated from the police academy at Southwestern Illinois College. Police Chief Geoff Guttschow has done a phenomenal job creating a supportive and positive work environment within our police department. It is a testament to his hard work that in a time when police departments across the country struggle to find new officers, the Village is able to recruit this many officers. Congratulations to the new officers, and congratulations, Chief Guttschow!
Finally, you’ve probably seen signs all over town, District 34 is making a big push right now to remind parents that kindergarten registration for this fall is underway. For more information, visit: https://www.antioch34.com/domain/32
Thank you! I hope you have a great weekend!
Scott J. Gartner
