Happy Friday, Antioch!
Thank you to everyone who braved the heat to come out for this morning’s groundbreaking ceremony for our new open space redevelopment in the heart of downtown. This project has been years in the making with a tremendous amount of work by staff, elected officials, and contractors. Thank you to everyone who brought us to the point we’re at today – the start of construction!
I’ve had a couple of questions about the park.
What features will the park have? The park will feature a splash pad, a gazebo/performance space with amphitheater seating, an inclusive playground, a concession/cafe area with bathroom facilities, and the exposed Sequoit Creek running through the heart of the park. This park will look amazing.
How will we pay for this? The winning bid (from Boller Construction) for the redevelopment project was approximately $12.5 million. This will be paid for by; $1.9 million from American Recovery Plan Act funding (ARPA), $2.75 million from a Stormwater Management Commission grant, and the remainder by Alternate Revenue Source General Obligation Bonds. These bonds are paid for by Business District sales tax revenue. This means we are making a major improvement to our downtown, without placing a financial burden on property taxpayers (homeowners). We can’t wait for this to open in 2024.
Do you have your tickets yet for the Antioch Lions Club 64th Annual Chicken, Pork BBQ & Auction? This fun annual event is this Sunday (July 30th) at Williams Park. Pre-sale tickets are available at the Antioch Piggly Wiggly, or by contacting an Antioch Lions Club member. Pre-sale tickets are $15. Day of the event tickets are $20. If you’ve never been to the Lions Club BBQ, I -strongly- encourage you to come out and support this great organization! More information: https://fb.me/e/4FgKrTNmK
Finally, at our last Village Board meeting, we had a chance to recognize members of the Antioch Police Department and First Fire Protection District who were the first responders to the accident at the Taste of Antioch earlier this month. We’re lucky to have such dedicated and wonderful men and women serving our community! Fox 32 television was at our board meeting – here is the video of the news story: https://www.fox32chicago.com/news/huntley-daniels-boy-thrown-from-carnival-ride-in-antioch-recovering-at-home-walking-with-a-walker
