Happy Friday, Antioch!
Are you a golfer or do you know someone who enjoys golf? The Antioch Chamber of Commerce is hosting its annual golf outing later this month. This year, they’ve made a few changes, adding competition between mayors of several communities across Northern Illinois. The first-ever Northern Illinois Mayors’ Cup will be Friday, August 25, 2023 at the Fox Lake Country Club. I’ll be joining mayors from several other communities, including Lindenhurst, Fox Lake, Lake Villa, and several others. This event is open to the public! I expect this to be a really fun afternoon of golf and networking! In addition to golf, the chamber will serve lunch, host a cocktail hour, have dinner with raffle prizes, and more! For more information on the outing and for details on how to register, visit: https://cm.antiochchamber.org/events/details/golf-outing-mayors-cup-open-to-public-chamber-and-municipalities-7745?fbclid=IwAR10h5QK8iKt6SRfo9kgWNcvu-Sxtqbjjy6OfxDzykxuMJxdZAn0SJm6qkI
Did you make it to the car show and concert last night at the bandshell? What a night! We had over 100 classic and custom cars participate in the show, plus great oldies music from the Rockin’ Fenderskirts. Thank you to everyone who helped organize the car show and concert!
Next Thursday, we’re using the last It’s Thursday concert of the season to help the local business community work in a collaborative effort to offer support to Huntley, the 10-year-old child who was injured during the Taste of Antioch carnival last month. Featuring music from popular rock cover band Mike & Joe, the event will be a family-friendly evening of entertainment, complemented by an array of food and beverages for sale, served by Antioch’s business owners and staff. Attendees can participate in raffles and other activities, with all profits going to Huntley and his family. More information: https://fb.me/e/303qif8sp
The Northern Illinois Chapter of Fishing Has No Boundaries fundraiser is this Sunday at the Limerick from 12 noon to 5 p.m. They’ll have raffles, an auction, 50/50, live music, and lots of fun! Fishing Has No Boundaries is a non-profit, educational, 501 (C) (3) charitable and training organization. The Northern Illinois Chapter is one of 18 chapters in 9 states. Their mission is to find new and safe ways to get persons with disabilities out on the water. This will be a fun event for a great cause! Tomorrow (8/5) is the annual Little Miss, Jr. Miss, and Miss Antioch Pageant. I want to wish all the young ladies participating, the best of luck! The Pageant is at 4 p.m. tomorrow in the auditorium at Antioch Community High School. Admission at the door is only $5. Our outgoing queens did a phenomenal job serving our community over the past year. Thank you outgoing queens, Fiona Serifov, Jennifer Serifov, and Hayley Taylor!
One of the gems of our community is the Lakes Region Historical Society Schoolhouse Museum. If you’ve never had an opportunity to visit their museum, I recommend that you do. It’s a great way to learn about Antioch’s rich history. The Schoolhouse Museum (817 Main Street) is open every Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. from April through November. For more information about the museum or the historical society, visit their website: https://antiochhistory.org
