Happy Friday, Antioch!
Despite the wind, the sunshine made today a perfect day to spend walking around downtown. This morning. I had a chance to speak with a few local business owners who are gearing up for the start of the holiday shopping season. I want to make sure that next Friday’s Antioch Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting along with next Saturday’s Small Business Saturday shopping event are both on your calendar. These are both excellent reasons to bring out the family (and your wallet) and visit some of our great restaurants and shops!
Before you head out shopping on Small Business Saturday, I want to remind you that the Village of Antioch has partnered with the Antioch Chamber of Commerce to provide an extra incentive to shop local! Village of Antioch e-gift cards are available online and welcome at nearly 30 locations around the village. As a bonus, the village is offering bonus dollars with purchases. Starting on Monday, you’ll be able to see the list of where the Yiftee e-gift cards can be redeemed and see the special BOGO offers. For more information and to buy the e-gift cards, visit: www.AntiochChamber.org
Earlier today, we held a special Village Board meeting to discuss some of the larger projects the village is undertaking. It was an opportunity for the elected officials, staff, and members of the public to weigh in on what should be priorities for the village moving forward. I appreciate everyone’s collaboration! It’s exciting to find a pathway forward for continued progress for the village, while trying to keep the property tax burden for village residents as low as we can.
The Antioch Area Healthcare Accessibility Alliance-AAHAA is having what sounds like a really fun fundraiser on Sunday! AAHAA is having its Denny Diamond Fundraising Event on Sunday, November 19th at Dockers North. This will be a fun evening to benefit a very worthwhile local cause. I have never seen Denny Diamond in concert, but I have heard a lot of great things! This should be a great event. If you’re unfamiliar with the organization, AAHAA works to improve the accessibility of healthcare for families of Antioch and Grant Townships. Tickets for Sunday’s event are $50 each, which includes a buffet dinner. For more information, or to buy tickets, visit: https://www.aahaa4health.org
On Monday, the Antioch Community High School will be hosting a free concert for the community featuring the Millikin Symphonic Wind Ensemble. The FREE concert will be on Monday at 7 p.m. at the high school auditorium. For more information, visit: APAB, ACHS Performing Arts Boosters, Inc. -formerly AMPS
Look for something new from the village in your mailbox, sometime soon! I’m excited to announce that the village is re-launching a village newsletter that will be sent to homes in the village, twice a year. Our first edition will be arriving any day! I’d love your feedback.
Finally, I wanted to include a couple more pictures from the open space redevelopment project at Main and Orchard. I had a chance to walk through the work site earlier this week. Every time I visit, there seems to be significant progress!
Have a great weekend!
