Happy Thanksgiving, Antioch! I’m sending out my Friday Mayor’s Message a little early this week……
As we are now heading into the holiday season, I encourage you to take a moment to reflect on the many blessings of this year and enjoy some quality time with family and friends. I have so much to be thankful for this year, including my health, my family, my friends, and having the honor of serving the residents of Antioch as Mayor. It has been exciting to see the developments and progress this year in our community. Most importantly, I am grateful to those in our community who help make it the wonderful place it is.
After a day of eating and relaxing on Thanksgiving, I hope you can join us for the annual Antioch Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting ceremony on Friday! The parade steps off from Park and Skidmore at 6:30p, proceeding down Park to Main Street, then along Main to Orchard, and finally to the bandshell area. Like last year, the tree lighting will take place at the bandshell following the parade. Anticipating a large crowd, be sure to arrive early and linger downtown after the parade and tree lighting. Our local business community is looking forward to seeing you!
Don’t forget, this Saturday is Small Business Saturday. It is a very important shopping day for our local shops and restaurants – Let’s all make an effort to support our local businesses. To make Small Business Saturday even better, the Village has teamed up with the Antioch Chamber of Commerce to present e-gift cards for participating local businesses. Take advantage of bonus gift cards available when you make a purchase. It’s extra cash to spend at Antioch shops and restaurants. To buy or learn more, visit: https://app.yiftee.com/gift-card/antioch-chamber–il
If you haven’t driven on North Avenue lately, it’s great to see the tracks just east of Main Street back open! I wanted to thank the Lake County Department of Transportation for getting this project done quickly. Not only did LCDOT make the crossing smoother for vehicles, but they also added necessary safety improvements required by the Federal Railroad Administration. These safety improvements help move us closer to the resumption of the Lake County Quiet Zone! Thank you, LCDOT!
Earlier today, some festive elves visited Village Hall to deliver a special mailbox for Letters to Santa. Our Parks Department will ensure these letters reach the North Pole before Christmas. When your kids drop off letters, make sure they include a return address so Santa can respond!
Finally, Groot will be wrapping up its 2023 Antioch leaf vacuuming program, soon. Visit the Village’s website for the latest update: https://www.antioch.il.gov/2023/10/24/2023-village-leaf-vacuuming/
Wishing you a joyful holiday season, and I hope to see you around town this weekend!
