Happy Friday, Antioch!
As the year is starting to wind down, I hope you’re able to find time to enjoy some of the many things that make Antioch a great place to live. Earlier today, I had a chance to walk around the construction site at the village-owned property at Main and Orchard. It’s exciting to see how things are really taking shape with the project! When completed, this site is going to add considerably to the downtown shopping and dining experience.
Speaking of the project… at our Village Board meeting this past week, we heard an update from the project management team about how we’re still on track for most of the work to be completed by the end of June! This of course is weather permitting. Hopefully, things stay mild for a little while longer so we can stay on or ahead of schedule. I have included some pictures (below) from the work site. Looking at these pictures compared to what I shared just a few weeks ago, you can see how quickly things are moving! I’m grateful for our staff and contractors who are working hard to make this project successful!
We had an early Christmas gift this year from the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA)! We received word this week that the train horns will be stopping and the Quiet Zone will be reinstated, soon! This was a collaborative effort by our village staff and regional to make this happen. It’s Santa’s last nights at the Sawmill (for this year). If you haven’t had a chance to see Santa at the Sawmill, tonight and tomorrow are your last chances for this season. Bring your wish list and camera! Santa will be at the Sawmill tonight and tomorrow between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Also this weekend, the Village of Antioch’s Festival of Trees continues. Trees will be displayed at the Buttrick Sawmill through this Sunday, December 17th. The Parks Department will announce the winners of the tree judging contest on Facebook. They all look great!
Adding to the festive spirit of our community, the Antioch Chamber of Commerce continues its holiday light show at the Bandshell daily through December 25, from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. Also, the Chamber’s Kringle Village and Dickens Holiday Village run daily at 510 0rchard Street, through New Year’s Day.
Need a stocking stuffer idea? Wine Walk tickets are the perfect holiday gift! The Village’s next Wine Walk will be on Saturday, January 20th. Not only are the Wine Walks a fun afternoon, but tickets for the Wine Walk are also an easy and thoughtful gift! There is still room for kids at the Antioch Park and Recreation Department’s Winter Break Camp! Registration is open. We’ve seen a lot of interest in the camp this year. One of the new things we’re offering is peace of mind for parents – the Parks Department guarantees that none of the sessions will be canceled due to low enrollment. The Winter Break Camp runs the weeks of December 26th and January 2nd. (Four days each week). Finally, please remember to shop and dine locally throughout the holiday season!
