Good afternoon, Antioch! Happy Friday!
Today is International Women’s Day! I’d like to recognize the contributions of the many women who have made and continue to make Antioch a wonderful community. Thank you!
Earlier this week, I had the pleasure of spending time at District 34’s Mary Kay McNeill Early Learning Academy to help celebrate D34 Day! This was the fourth annual District 34 Day (held each year on 3/4). I had a chance to join Ms. Revere and Mrs. Maybrun’s classes to read “We Don’t Eat Our Classmates” by Ryan T. Higgins. I hope the students had as much fun as I did! (Picture below: MKM Principal Gardner and me on D34 Day).
If you’re looking for something fun to do tonight or this weekend, check out the stand-up comedy shows at the PM&L Theatre! Tonight and tomorrow night, PM&L is presenting comedian Anthoney Fuentes, with several others, for a night of laughs and fun! Both nights have a 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. show featuring three comedians and a cash bar. This should be a great experience – I hope you can make it! Tickets are available online, at: https://app.arts-people.com/index.php?actions=4&p=3
This Sunday, the Antioch Parks Department is hosting its Mother/Son Game Date. Tickets are still available – they’re only $15 per person and include pizza, bottled water, games, prizes, and more! For tickets, call the Parks Department or visit https://secure.rec1.com/IL/village-of-antioch/catalog/index/2525929503a6afcb76d13b1fac11f090?filter=c2VhcmNoPWJvd2xpbmc=
Next Wednesday, we’ll have our next Village Board meeting. Village Board meetings are held on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. The agenda for the Committee of the Whole and the Village Board meetings will be posted on the village’s website by Monday afternoon.
Don’t miss your chance to sign up for the Village’s family-friendly Easter activities! The Flashlight Easter Egg Hunt (for 10-15-year-olds) will take place on Thursday, March 28th at 8:00 p.m. The Antioch Easter Parade will be on Saturday, March 30th at 10:30 a.m. with an Easter Egg hunt for the kids (ages 0-9) at 11:00 a.m. If your children would like to participate in either egg hunt, please contact our Parks Department to get a wristband for the event.
It’s not too late to sign up for next week’s inaugural 2024 Shamrock Shuffle 5k family fun run/walk at the Tim Osmond Sports Complex. The run will take place next Saturday, March 16th. The run/walk will be followed by music and family-friendly events, with food and beer! For more information, visit https://fb.me/e/3tpXPZqLD
The Antioch Parks Department is working hard to hire summertime staff for camps and the Antioch Aqua Center. Right now, the Parks Department is hiring camp counselors, lifeguards, concession help, and other seasonal positions. These fun summertime jobs will provide a lifetime of great memories! For more information, call the Antioch Parks Department at 847-395-2160.
Finally, don’t forget about the time change this weekend! Daylight Saving Time starts at 2 a.m. on Sunday. This is also a good time to change the batteries in your smoke/carbon monoxide detectors.
I hope to see your around town this weekend. Please remember to shop and dine local!
