Happy Friday, Antioch! I hope you had a great week!
Last week, I had the pleasure of sharing a video highlighting the construction progress with our open space development project at Main and Orchard. This week, I’m excited to announce another milestone! Starting today, Village of Antioch residents can submit their suggestions on what to call the new park!
To submit a name, you must be a resident of the Village of Antioch. Criteria for the suggested names should include relevance to the redevelopment site’s historical value, geographical location, mission, and other notable connections to the Village of Antioch. Names that are similar to existing parks, properties, or facilities will not be considered to avoid confusion. All nominations will be reviewed by the Village of Antioch Parks Commission. Submissions will be accepted until April 7th, then the Antioch Parks Commission will pick their top five names, and our community will have the opportunity to vote on their favorite name!

The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree in the Guttschow household… Earlier this week, the Lake Villa Village Board recognized the heroics of an Antioch area teen with autism who jumped into action when the driver of his school bus suffered a medical emergency and became incapacitated. Not only is Jeffrey Starck a brave hero who prevented what could have been a devastating traffic accident, but he’s also the son of Antioch Village Administrator and Police Chief, Geoff Guttschow! I know Geoff and his wife Annie are proud of Jeffery. So am I – Way to go! You can read more about Jeffery’s heroics in this Lake and McHenry County Scanner news article: https://www.lakemchenryscanner.com/2024/03/20/a-local-hero-student-awarded-for-stopping-school-bus-after-driver-experiences-medical-emergency-in-lake-villa/
