Happy Friday, Antioch!
It’s nice to finally see the sun today and hope everyone had a great first week back from Spring Break and Easter Break. Speaking of the sun, I’m sure you’ve heard about the solar eclipse happening on Monday. I just saw the State Bank of The Lakes post on its Facebook page that they are giving out FREE solar eclipse glasses, while supplies last. I would like to send my condolences to former Mayor Larry Hanson, public works employee Dave Hanson, and the rest of the Hanson family on the passing of their mother Theresa Hanson last week. Our prayers and condolences go to the entire Hanson family. A link to her obituary and services can be found here: https://www.strangfh.com/obituary/theresa-hanson
Have you submitted your suggestion for the name of Antioch’s newest park?
Through the weekend, the village will be accepting name suggestions for the open space redevelopment project at Orchard and Main. So far, we’ve received hundreds of suggestions! I’m grateful for the great response from our community! If you would like to submit a name, you must be a resident of the Village of Antioch. Criteria for the suggested names should include relevance to the redevelopment site’s historical value, geographical location, mission, and other notable connections to the Village of Antioch. Names that are similar to existing parks, properties, or facilities will not be considered to avoid confusion. After Sunday night, all nominations will be reviewed by the Village of Antioch Parks Commission. Then, the Antioch Parks Commission will pick their top five names, and our community will have the opportunity to vote on their favorite name!

The new park will be opening this summer, but right next door to the park, the Lakes Region Historical Society will be opening its Schoolhouse Museum for the season, this weekend! The historical society posted on its Facebook page yesterday that they’ll be open for the season, starting tomorrow at 11 a.m. The Schoolhouse Museum (817 Main Street) will be open every Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. through November. If you’ve never had an opportunity to visit their museum, I recommend that you do. It’s a great way to learn about our town’s exciting and rich history. For more information about the museum or the historical society, visit their website: https://antiochhistory.org
Congratulations Antioch Pizza Shop! This past week, WGN-AM radio announced that their listeners voted Antioch Pizza as the best pizza in Chicagoland! How exciting is that?! The contest lasted 4 weeks with 7 rounds and a total of 271,351 votes! I’ll be recognizing this awesome achievement at our next village board meeting, next Wednesday, April 10th at 6:30 p.m.
Enjoy the Final Four weekend, watch some basketball, and shop local!
