Happy Friday, Antioch!
I wanted to lead this week’s message with a little bit of an update on the village’s new park project at Orchard and Main. In the coming weeks, we’ll have much more information to give about a date for the grand opening celebration and the name of the park! For the time being, I can tell you that most of the major construction is expected to be done in late June/early July. We’re anticipating a ribbon cutting grand opening event sometime in mid-August. The Village Board is expected to adopt the park’s new name at the June 12th board meeting. We don’t have definitive dates for the opening because we want to make sure the grass and other vegetation are in place and ready. If you drive by, you’ll see some of the fencing around the park has been reduced, so you can see more of what’s being built. It looks amazing!! I can’t wait for the grand opening. Once we have more details, I’ll share them with you.
What a great turnout today at the Antioch Dunkin’ for this year’s Cop on a Rooftop event. It was wonderful to see the support and donations the Antioch Police Department received from the members of our community. Thank you to everyone who stopped out and made a donation. It’s always great to see the strong community support for the Village of Antioch Police Department’s fundraising for the Special Olympics Illinois. It was also great to spend time with the group from the Mathias Academy who stopped by. Thanks again not only for your support of #CopOnARooftop but also for the constant support our community shows to the men and women who protect our community. Great job, APD!
Way to go, Camp Crayon!! Congratulations to the children from the Antioch Park Department’s Camp Crayon who graduated this week! The graduates from the 4-year-old class had their ceremony yesterday at the bandshell. I’m so glad I had a chance to join them – it was so fun! The village posted pictures of the graduation on its Facebook page yesterday. Congratulations, Elizabeth Snyder! Earlier today, Raymond Chevrolet Kia raffled off a brand new car and she was the lucky winner! This was part of Raymond’s Drive for Education program available to District 117 students. According to Raymond Chevrolet Kia, all of the students in the raffle demonstrated exceptional performance throughout the academic year. Congrats to all who qualified. Also, thank you Raymond Chevrolet Kia owner Mark Scarpelli! This program is just one of the many ways Mark gives back to the Antioch community – thank you for all that you do, Mark and the Raymond team!
And, speaking of Mark Scarpelli – Happy Birthday, Mark! I had the privilege of stopping in to see Mark earlier today at the dealership. I’m so thankful for Mark’s continued investment in Antioch, including the construction of his new Kia dealership, and the financial support he gives to so many community organizations and events, including many of the village events!
Have a great weekend! I hope to see you around town!
