Good afternoon, Antioch!
As we head into Memorial Day weekend, I hope you take time over the weekend to relax and be with family and friends. I hope can also take time to reflect on the courage and sacrifices of the men and women who have given their lives for our nation. God Bless these heroes.
As a community, we will come together this Monday for a Memorial Day ceremony at the Antioch Hillside Cemetery. The Antioch Memorial Day ceremony will be hosted by the Antioch American Legion Post 748 and Antioch VFW Post 4551, starting at 8:30 a.m. I’ve included a flyer below with more information about the ceremony.
Downtown Park Update: A year ago, I was letting you know that we were just about ready to pick a contractor for the new park. A year later, I’m excited to let you know that major construction will be wrapping up by the end of next month/beginning of July! (*weather permitting) Also, at our first Village Board meeting in June, we’re planning to formally adopt the name of the park! Also in June, we’ll be announcing plans for the ribbon-cutting grand opening event, which will be in August. I can’t wait! I had a chance to check out the park yesterday. Check out the pictures below of the progress!
Earlier today, I joined members of the Village Board and Village staff leadership for our quarterly strategic planning meeting. We started these meetings a couple of years ago, and they have become a great way for the board and staff to come together to assess our goals and progress as a village. I’m grateful for the partnership and ideas that come from these meetings. As a team today, we discussed our village’s long-term capital spending plan, which included talks about building a needed new public works facility and much needed updates to several of our parks. Thank you to everyone who participated and provided input today.
Fins up! It’s the opening weekend for the village’s pool! It’s always exciting to open another season at the Antioch Aqua Center. Our new Aquatics Supervisor, Alison Hurtado has been busy getting the pool staffed and ready to open. Alison, her staff, and Bob Rentner from the Public Works Department have done a great job! The pool will be open this weekend, Saturday through Monday, from 12 Noon to 5:00 p.m. for open swimming. If you don’t have a pool pass, don’t worry. You can buy one when the pool is open.
The next Village of Antioch Wine Walk will be two weeks from tomorrow, on Saturday, June 8th. As always, these are fun events that fill our downtown shops and restaurants full of people! We’ll have over 30 stops with over 50 types of wine! The Wine Walks are fun way to support our local business community.
