Good afternoon and Happy Flag Day, Antioch!
It’s official – our downtown park has a name! At our village board meeting this past Wednesday, the Antioch Village Board unanimously adopted the name of “Sequoit Creek Park” for the village’s newest and most exciting park. Thank you to everyone who helped with the naming process. We had hundreds of suggestions with hundreds of residents weighing in on their choice. The people spoke, and our board listened!
Now that we have a name, we can start planning the Sequoit Creek Park grand opening! Make sure you’re available the morning of Saturday, August 17th for a ribbon-cutting celebration of the park! In the coming weeks, I’ll have more to share about our grand opening party, including the time and other details.
What a great concert last night! For the third year in a row, we kicked off the summer concert season at the bandshell with a big show and a lot of fun. Thank you to everyone who came out to enjoy GOOROOs and Chris Cagle. Every year, there is a lot of work by a lot of people to pull off a concert of this size. I am especially grateful to our partners and sponsors who helped make the show happen, including our radio partners at US 99, the food vendors, volunteers, and many others. Additionally, I can’t thank Mark Scarpelli and Raymond Chevrolet Kia for their big support as the concert’s title sponsor. Additionally, our Police and Public Works Departments and the Antioch Fire Department worked hard to make sure things were safe, clean, and ready for the large crowd.
Our next Thursday Night Concert at the Bandshell is next Thursday with local 80s/90s cover band, Breakfast Club. The concert will start at 7 p.m. Coolers will be welcome, however, if you don’t want to bring your own, you can buy drinks from the Antioch Moose Lodge. Also, before the concert, our weekly Farmer’s Market kicks off at Main and Orchard from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Harry Potter fans – tomorrow is the Antioch Chamber of Commerce’s popular Wizard’s Weekend Day. The Chamber tells me that tickets are no longer available online, but you can buy them at the event tomorrow morning. For more information, visit: https://www.antiochchamber.org/pages/wizards-weekend
Have a great weekend!
