Happy Friday and Good Afternoon, Antioch!
As I put together this week’s message, I can’t help but reflect on what an exciting time of year this is in our community. Earlier this week, I had a chance to walk through downtown – it’s exciting to see our business district bustling with residents and visitors, supporting our great local business community. I ran into several families playing Where’s Waldo! This is a fun event, organized by Little Bean Books, which has over two dozen local businesses participating. If you haven’t played yet, you have until the end of the month. For more information, visit: https://www.facebook.com/share/FDWZBQiC99kixqBP/
The bandshell is the place to be this weekend! This weekend, the Antioch Chamber of Commerce is hosting its Taste of Summer event. It started last night and runs through Sunday. This year’s taste will still feature four nights of music and food, however, there will be no carnival this year. More information is available on the Antioch Chamber’s website: https://cm.antiochchamber.org/events/details/taste-of-summer-exhibitors-sidewalk-sales-july-18-21-2024-8319
Don’t forget – tickets are on sale now for this year’s Antioch Lions Club Chicken BBQ, Pig Roast & Auction. The event will be on Sunday, July 28th at Williams Park. Pre-sale tickets are available at the Antioch Piggly Wiggly, or by contacting an Antioch Lions Club member. Pre-sale tickets are $15. Day of the event tickets are $20. Station 51 on TV! Downtown Antioch’s Station 51 will be highlighted tomorrow night on CBS television’s Destination Chicago TV show. This will be exciting exposure not only for Station 51 but also for the Village of Antioch! This episode was originally scheduled to air last Saturday but got moved to this Saturday, July 20th, at 6:30 pm on CBS Chicago. I hear Station 51 will have the TV show on their TVs while it airs – how fun would that be to watch Station 51 on TV, while having dinner at Station 51?!
Did you see the pictures on the Village’s Facebook page of the Fourth of July Parade? They’re great! Thank you, PJ Delp and PeeJ Photography for donating your time and talent to the village. You can check out the pictures, here: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.490873950004696&type=3
This coming Wednesday night is our next Antioch Village Board meeting. Village Board meetings are held on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. The agenda for the Committee of the Whole and the Village Board meetings will be posted on the village’s website by Monday afternoon.
Finally, I wanted to say CONGRATULATIONS to Antioch Public Library District Executive Director Jennifer Drinka! This past week, we learned that Jennifer was named the 2024 Illinois Library Association Librarian of the Year! This is a great achievement for Jennifer, our Library District, and the Village! Way to go, Jennifer – we’re proud of you and all that you do for our community!
I hope to see you around town this weekend! Remember, shop local!
