Good Afternoon, Antioch!
I hope you have had a great week!
We had our most recent Village Board meeting this past Wednesday. Before the meeting, several members of the board had an opportunity to visit the new Sequoit Creek Park for a construction update. Every time we have a chance to see the most recent progress of the park’s construction, it looks even more impressive. I hope you can join us for an exciting day for Antioch – the grand opening celebration of Sequoit Creek Park! The celebration is open to everyone and will be at 11 a.m., the morning of Saturday, August 17th.
Also, before our board meeting, I had the pleasure of joining several Village Board members, along with members of the Antioch Chamber of Commerce for the ribbon-cutting celebration of downtown Antioch’s newest shop – Found Vintage Home and Gifts! Congratulations and welcome to Antioch!
Happy 100th Anniversary Antioch Theatre! Today is the 100th anniversary of the grand opening of downtown Antioch’s historic Antioch Theatre. As part of the celebration, the theater will be offering a series of free shows celebrating movies from the last 100 years. This afternoon at 4:00 p.m., the series will kick off with 1924 silent film “Sherlock Jr” starring Buster Keaton. It’s very exciting to have a thriving theater as part of our downtown business community. For more information about the anniversary celebration, including other movies from the past 100 years that will be shown, visit: http://www.antiochtheatre.com/
Sunday morning, the Antioch Traveling Closet Corporation NFP will be holding its next giveaway of clothing, toiletries, and essential items for families in need. The Antioch Lions Club Chicken BBQ, Pig Roast & Auction is this Sunday at Williams Park. I’ve been a part of this event for years – it’s an exciting fun, family-friendly tradition for our village! They’ll be great food, raffles, auctions, and more!! Pre-sale tickets are available at the Antioch Piggly Wiggly, by contacting an Antioch Lions Club member, or through the Lions Club website. Pre-sale tickets are $15. Day of the event tickets are $20. The money raised goes to a great cause. A lot of work goes into making this a fun event – thank you to all of the Lions Club volunteers and community members who donate their time and resources! Next Thursday will be an exciting afternoon and evening in downtown Antioch! In addition to the weekly farmers market at Main and Orchard from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., the Village will host the popular Custom and Classic car show at the bandshell starting at 5 p.m.! The car show will feature about 100 classic and custom cars! It’s always a fun, family-friendly event! Then, starting at 7 p.m., the It’s Thursday concert will feature the oldies tribute band, The Dynamix! The crowd for last night’s Billy Elton show was huge – I expect a similar crowd next Thursday, so show up early and prepare for a lot of fun!
Remember to take time this weekend to support our local business community! I hope I see you around town!
