We’re about a week away from the grand opening of Sequoit Creek Park! A week from tomorrow, we’ll cut the ribbon and open the park, including the playground and splash pad to the public! To go along with the opening of Sequoit Creek Park, 16 downtown shops have teamed up to celebrate and you can not only join them in the celebration but have a chance to win some great prizes! The Shop and Play Sequoit Creek Park Soiree starts Thursday, August 15th, and runs through Sunday, August 18th. Play along by visiting the participating businesses to get one FREE raffle ticket plus you can earn more for every $20 you spend at each location for your chance to win some great prizes including gift baskets curated by each shop and even the grand prize which consists of gift certificates from all participating locations along with a pair of Antioch Wine Walk tickets!

A week from tomorrow The Penny’s Purpose NFP will host its third annual Bat for a Cause Co-Ed Softball Tournament at The Sandlots of Salem. I’m excited to help kick things off by throwing out the first pitch! Tomorrow, August 10th, is the annual Little Miss, Jr. Miss, and Miss Antioch Pageant. I wish all the young ladies participating the very best of luck! Doors open for the Pageant at 3:30 p.m. tomorrow in the auditorium at Antioch Community High School. Admission at the door is only $5. Our outgoing queens did a phenomenal job serving our community over the past year. Thank you outgoing queens, Laila Salata, Zoe Babin, and Autumn Misch!
The Northern Illinois Fishing Has No Boundaries fundraiser is this Sunday at the Limerick Lounge from 12 noon to 4 p.m. They’ll have raffles, an auction, live music, and lots of fun! Fishing Has No Boundaries is a non-profit, educational, 501 (C) (3) charitable and training organization whose mission is to find new and safe ways to get persons with disabilities out on the water. The Village of Antioch Parks and Recreation Department is in the early planning stages for the redevelopment of the Centennial Park on Anita Avenue. Residents are invited to provide their input on plans for an updated park. Please join our Parks and Recreation Department for an open house next Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. at the Antioch Senior Center, 817 Holbek Drive, Antioch. All Village of Antioch residents are welcome to attend. Hitchcock Design Group has been hired to design a master plan for the park and will be leading the public input session. There will be more opportunities in the future to provide input as the planning phase proceeds over the coming months. Fore! The Antioch Chamber of Commerce is hosting its annual golf outing later this month. The second annual Northern Illinois Mayors’ Cup will be on Friday, August 23, 2024, at the Fox Lake Country Club. I’ll be joining mayors from several other communities, hopefully, you can join us, too! This event is open to the public.
