Limited Refuse Service includes the weekly curbside collection limited to one 65-gallon cart and one bulk item per week. Additional refuse found outside the cart will require an additional fee for collection.

Residents will receive weekly collection of recyclables with a 65-gallon cart. To upgrade to a 95-gallon cart at no charge, please contact a Groot customer service representative at 877-404-7668. For a list of recyclable materials, please click here.

Senior discounts are available to residents over 65 years of age. Verified seniors will receive a 20% discount off the program rates and must be registered with the Village in order to be eligible for the senior discount. Please contact the Village at 847-395-1000 to verify your senior status.

Groot offers residential landscape waste collection from April 1 through November 30 each year. Collection will coincide with the refuse & recycling collection on Thursday during the season. All landscape waste must be placed at the curb in biodegradable paper bags sold specifically for the collection and disposal of landscape waste, or in marked containers clearly indicating that it is landscape waste. Bags and containers left at the curb shall not exceed 50 pounds. All bundled brush and material too bulky to be placed in a bag shall be bundled with biodegradable natural fiber twine and shall not exceed 4 feet in length, 2 feet in diameter, with each bundle not to exceed 50 pounds. Christmas trees will be removed after the holidays on the first and second pick-up in January.

Acceptable landscape waste includes: grass clippings, leaves, branches, brush, garden plants, flowers, weeds, vines, bark pieces, garden vegetables and garden fruit. Unacceptable landscape includes fence posts, railroad ties, firewood, sod, earth and rocks.

During the first full four weeks in November, Groot will provide leaf vacuuming services at the curb. The provision of this service requires residents to rake leaves to within five (5) feet of the edge of the road (not in ditches).

Service includes collection of one (1) bulk item (not appliances or oversized/overweight items) per week at no additional cost. For additional bulk items, residents should call Groot to schedule a pick-up in advance.

Bulk items include: boxes, barrels, crates, furniture, and similar items that do not fit into a proper container and can be safely collected/lifted by one driver without assistance. Exceptions include items which are banned from direct disposal into a landfill (appliances, tires, car batteries, televisions and other electronic waste).

Oversized and overweight items are any single large or extra heavy item that requires Groot to schedule a special pick-up. An example of an oversized item is a piano or any item that requires two or more people to safely lift. There will be an additional cost for oversized items.

Please note that Groot will be providing an annual bulk item collection program during one week, usually sometime in the spring, on a date to be announced. This program will provide for the unlimited collection of bulk items as defined above. The exact week will be announced by the Village.

White goods such as: refrigerators, freezers, ovens, washers, air conditioners, humidifiers, dehumidifiers, dryers, water heaters, water softeners, dishwashers, stoves, ranges, furnaces, etc. require a special pick-up and separate disposal is required by the State of Illinois. Items will be picked up for an additional fee. Residents must call Groot at 877-404-7668 to schedule a pick-up in advance.

Certain electronic items are prohibited from being disposed of in Illinois landfills. Groot will collect, at the curb, up to six electronic items for $30. One television (not to exceed 50 pounds) will be accepted for each collection scheduled. Contact Groot at 877-404-7668 to schedule for the collection of e-waste.

E-Waste Materials are defined by Illinois Law as the following: computers & monitors, video game consoles, electronic mice, printers, scanners, televisions, converter boxes, electronic keyboards, cable receivers, fax machines, small scale servers, satellite receivers, VCR’s, DVD players, DVR recorders and digital music players.

Groot observes the following holidays: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.

If any of the above holidays fall on a weekday, on or before the scheduled collection, services will be delayed by one day for the remainder of the holiday week. If the holiday falls on Sunday, it will be observed on Monday and the service will be delayed one day the entire week.
